A NAS enclosure DNS-343 from D-Link. This is a NAS enclosure which supports 4 SATA drives. This NAS enclosure can be easily connected over a network and can be accessed through the network. It supports the different RAID levels. RAID0 which is nothing but striping of the data across the drives so that this increases the data transfer rate. It may either consumes all the 4 drives or only 2 drives. RAID1 which requires atleast 2 drives,Mirrors the data on your hard drive thus implementing the redundancy to recover the lost data. This enclosure can also be used as a JBOD where all the drives are treated as a single drive. RAID5 requires atleast 3 drives which increases the performance. The lost data on one drive, i mean in case of one drive failure the data is recovered by using some complex algorithm.
In the front end it has got a OLED display which reveals a lot of information and status of everything such as temperature of the device, IP address of the machine and the drive information.
At the back end there are 2 ports, one for USB which is used to plug in printers or an UPS. The other one is the Ethernet port. It has a built in UPnp server which streams the data on the drives to any UPnP enabled devices. A FTP server and a Web based configuration panel to do all the configurations.
